At just seven years old, Angelina Tsuboi discovered her passion for innovation. It all began with a
simple game she programmed in her Los Angeles public school’s Grade 2 class. Today , at 18, the Grade
12 student’s initial curiosity has evolved into a deep-seated desire to use technology to decode (解码)
real-world problems.
In 2021, she co-developed Megaphone, one of her first apps, to tackle unanswered post-class
questions and poor communication about events and announcements. Her problem-solving ability kept
building from there.
When she took online CPR classes at the start of the pandemic, she figured it couldn’t be just her
who was struggling with the steps. So she created an app called CPR Buddya winner in the 2022 Apple
Swift Challenge which guides users through CPR using vibrations (震动) to regulate breath. After
winning the award, Angelina presented her work to Apple CEO Tim Cook, a highlight in her young
career, but one she didn’t lose her cool over. “There’s no point putting people on a pedestal (神坛),” she
says.
The next year, Angelina built an app called Lilac, designed to assist nonEnglish-speaking single
parents with resources for housing, job opportunities and translation support. She was inspired by her
own experiences as a child of a single mother who immigrated to the US.
When Angelina decided to pursue pilot training at the age of 16, she was struck by how difficult it
was to find financial support, which encouraged her to create yet another app, Pilot Fast Track, which
helps those longing to be pilots find scholarships for flight training.
Looking to the future, besides applying to colleges with great labs, Angelina is exploring the field
of aerospace cyber security and mechatronics combining computer science, electrical engineering and
mechanical engineering.
“There’s not enough optimism in the world,“ she says. “I have also been in situations in my life
where I’ve lost a lot of hope. But in the end, it is a mindset, and there are ways in any situation you’re in
to make it somewhat better.”
24.What is Angelina’s pursuit?
A.To design games for kids.
B.To stimulate teen’s curiosity.
C.To address problems through technology.
D.To find innovative approaches to digital challenges.
25.What can we learn about Angelina from Paragraph 3?
A.She couldn’t breathe regularly. B.She was inspired by celebrities.
C.She replaced CPR with an app. D.She was humble about her success.
26.What was the primary goal of developing Pilot Fast Track?
A.To direct pilots’ career paths. B.To help to-be pilots find funds.
C.To pair future pilots with airlines. D.To evaluate pilot training schools.
27.What might be the best title?
A.Breaking the code B.Bearing growing pains
C.Facing life as it is D.Following role models

You constantly find yourself apologizing to a friend when you've done nothing wrong. You feel you
must obey someone's demands, fearing that he/she will reveal a secret or weakness. Or perhaps a relative
is trying to make you feel obliged to do something by saying, “That's what friends or family do for each
other.” They arouse feelings of guilt in you for not meeting their needs.
If you have had experiences with any of these cases. then you are the victim of emotional
blackmail( 勒 索 ). This style of handle controls you through your emotions. Fear, obligation and
guilt----FOG----arc used by an emotional blackmailer to get what they want from people.
Anyone----a friend, colleague, parent, partner or other family members----could be that person.
Their demands are intended to control their victim's behavior in unhealthy methods.
Dr. Susan Forward identifies six stages in emotional blackmail. Implied or obvious demands come
first. “l don't think you should do things with that person. They're not good for you.” After this kind of
statement is stage two: Resistance. The victim often avoids the blackmailer or suggests alternatives
instead of saying no. Stage three is persistent pressure by the blackmailer: “If we were really friends,
you'd do it.” Stage four involves threats: “If you don't do this...then I will...” The victim doesn't want the
blackmailer to make good on their threats, so obedience( 顺 从 ), which is stage five, often leaves the
victim feeling guilty or resentful. In stage six the blackmailer backs off until the next demand.
What can you do? First, recognize if you are being pressured. threatened or controlled. Stay calm, so
you can consider other possibilities. Identify your triggers; don't be pressured into an immediate
response. Offer a compromise. Tell the blackmailer how you feel, and give them a chance to
acknowledge their behavior and change. If they won't, walk away from the relationship. Under no
circumstances should you let your fears be used against you.
28. What is called emotional blackmail?
A. Having experiences of fear, obligation and guilt.
B. Reaching goals through emotional controls over others.
C. Enriching one's emotions like fear, obligation and guilt.
D. Getting whatever one wants without any emotional changes.
29. Which of the following can be the second stage of blackmail?
A. The victim felt scared to be threatened and asked others for help.
B. The victim announced, “l would not do as you ordered anymore!”
C. The victim said, “How about treating you to a big meal instead?”
D. The victim decided to have a face-to-face talk with the blackmailer.
30. What does the underlined word “resentful” in the last paragraph but one mean?
A. Angry. B. Frightened. C. Indifferent. D. Amazed.
31. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. The risks of emotionally blackmailing others.
B. The steps of avoiding being emotionally blackmailed.
C. The suggestions on punishing an emotional blackmailer.
D. The ways to prevent oneself emotionally blackmailing others.
D
“We are running out of space and the only places to go to are other worlds... Spreading out may be the
only thing that saves us from ourselves. I am convinced that humans need to leave Earth.” These are the
words of the famous scientist Stephen Hawking, spoken at a science festival in Norway in 2017, a year
before his death.
Hawking was not alone in this view. Many experts feel that the only way for humanity to last far into
the future is to colonize other planets. That way, if an asteroid, a terrible disease, nuclear war, or some other
disaster strikes Earth, civilization as we know it would still have a chance. Mars is one of the most tempting
destinations. NASA, the United Arab Emirates, the private company SpaceX, and the organization Mars
One all have plans to send humans there. “Either we spread Earth to other planets, or we risk going extinct,
SpaceX founder Elon Musk said at a conference in 2013.
But not everyone agrees that colonizing Mars or any other planet is such a great plan. The most
common argument against going is that it’s just too expensive or dangerous. It will take huge amounts of
money and other resources just to get people there, let alone set up a place for them to live. It’s not even
clear if humans could survive on Mars. One of the biggest dangers there is deadly radiation that bombards
the planet.
Maybe all the time and money people would pour into a Mars mission would be better spent on more
urgent projects here on Earth, like dealing with poverty or climate change. Some experts argue that
handling a problem like an asteroid strike or disease outbreak while staying here on Earth would be much
easier and less expensive than surviving on a new planet.
In addition, moving to a new planet could harm or destroy anything that already lives there. Mars
seems uninhabited, but it could possibly host microbial life. Human visitors may destroy this life or
permanently change or damage the Martian environment. Some feel that’s too much of a risk to take.
What do you think? Should humans colonize outer space or stay home?
32. What can be inferred from the passage?
A. Many experts insist that humans should take the risk.
B. Mars is the most attractive destinations for human beings.
C. Hawking firmly believes the only way to save humans is moving to Mars.
D. All the other experts don’t agree with Hawking’s idea.
33. Why do some experts disagree with the plan to colonize Mars?
A. It will cost much more money to settle on Mars than on Earth.
B. It is too long a distance from the Earth to the Mars.
C. Human visitors will bring diseases to Martian environment.
D. The deadly radiation that bombards the planet is the biggest danger.
34. What’s the writing purpose of the passage?
A. To raise people’s awareness of protecting the environment.
B. To present different opinions on whether to move to the Mars.
C. To arouse readers’ reflection on whether to colonize outer space.
D. To inspire people to deal with the environmental problems.
35. In which section of a magazine is the passage most likely from?
A. Fiction. B. Current affairs. C. Social Studies. D. Science.

第二节(满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Emily Harper sat at her desk, staring blankly at the math problems in front of her. Numbers and
variables danced confusingly across the page, laughing at her every effort. At school, Emily was known
for her artistic talents, but math had always been her weakness. No matter how hard she tried, she just
couldn't make sense of it.
Her struggles only worsened in the 10th grade. The more pressure to keep up with her classmates
grew, and the poor grades shook her confidence. Her parents decided to step in. “We need to find you
some help,” her mother gently suggested one evening.
Then came Mr. Jenkins. a retired local teacher known for his unique teaching style. Emily was
initially resistant; the idea of spending extra hours on a subject she hated seemed like a punishment. But
she unwillingly agreed, knowing something had to change.
Their first session was tense. Mr. Jenkins sensing her frustration didn't dive straight into problems.
Instead, he asked about her interests. When Emily spoke passionately about her painting, he smiled.
“Math is like art, Emily. It has patterns and beauty if you know where to look.” Doubtful but inspired,
Emily listened as he began to explain concepts through visual examples. He used colors and shapes,
turning abstract numbers into something almost tangible(有形的). For the first time, math seemed less
like a foreign language and more like a puzzle waiting to be solved.
However, progress was slow. Weeks passed with minimal improvement, and Emily's patience wore
thin. A particularly difficult quiz left her in tears, convinced she was sure to fail. Mr. Jenkins said,
“Remember, Emily, every artist starts with a blank canvas. Masterpieces aren't created overnight.”
Encouraged by his firm belief, Emily pushed on. She began to see the connections between the
steps, how each solution followed a logical path. Small victories in practice problems gave her some
hope. Mr. Jenkins was always there, celebrating her successes no matter how minor.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150 左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Gradually, Emily's confidence grew with Mr. Jenkins' help.
Emily's heart raced when the results day arrived.

读后续写
Gradually, Emily's confidence grew with Mr. Jenkins’ help. Each class Mr. Jenkins taught her
turned into an adventure of discovery, where numbers and shapes combined to create a symphony(交响
乐) of logic and imagination magically. She started to admire the elegance and harmony in variables
(变量) and concepts, just as she would appreciate the balance in her paintings. Tolerant and firm, she
began to tackle(解决) her homework with a newfound enthusiasm, keen to unveil(揭开) the
mysteries hidden in it. Not only was she now counting down ( 倒 数 ) the minutes until their next
session, but her homework errors had witnessed an incredibly significant drop. Shortly, she completed
the mid-term exams, with the results to be revealed sooner.
Emily's heart raced when the results day arrived. Her stomach was a mix of butterflies(紧张)
and anticipation, a feeling she had never experienced for a math test before. Her fingers were icy as she
tightly grasped for her report card, heart pounding in throat. However, the moment she scanned the score,
what caught her eye was a bold(粗体) “A” in red ink. It was more than just a letter; it was a symbol
of her transformation, a reward to the hours of hard work and the belief Mr. Jenkins had placed in her.
Finally, Emily felt a total relief with a sweet peace flooding into her. Maths was just her cup of tea(爱
好) and no limits were impossible to break through with a strong will and proper guidance.
